Andrew Lau Discusses Casting Wang Yibo in “Formed Police Unit”

On May 29th, at the Beijing premiere and meet-and-greet for “Formed Police Unit,” <維和防暴隊> director Tat Chiu Lee (李達超) was asked why he chose Wang Yibo (王一博) for the film. He explained that Wang Yibo’s dance skills and coordination are excellent, and he wanted a police character who was lively and cool, which suited Wang Yibo perfectly at twenty-three.

Producer Andrew Lau (劉偉強) mentioned that he valued Wang Yibo’s youth and the fact that he had not acted in a movie before. “His first movie, take a shot!” After “Formed Police Unit,” Andrew recommended Wang Yibo to Yu Dong (於冬), which led to his casting in “Hidden Blade.” <無名> “Wang Yibo is good, both in dance and drama. One day, when Yu Dong or someone was looking for an actor, I suggested Wang Yibo. They really went for him, and he performed very well in ‘Hidden Blade.'”

“Formed Police Unit” tells the story of Chinese peacekeeping police carrying out their duties in the midst of war in a foreign land. Discussing his filming experience, Johnny Huang (黃景瑜) said he took quite a beating in the movie, getting punched, kicked, hit with sticks, and burned, experiencing large-scale physical abuse for the first time. Wang Yibo mentioned that his role involved less fighting and more chasing, trying to perform chase scenes as realistically as possible for the first time, doing these actions while carrying full gear, which was challenging and a new experience for him.

“Formed Police Unit” will officially release on May 1st.
